Don’t engage at the level where you can have fisticuffs. You can feel when you are engaging in this way, either through thought or during a physical experience, that this is not the right path for you. It’s also a path where the one you call other is not really there. This is not their true Self with whom you seem to be involved. Their true Self, and therefore yours, is much deeper than that. You are safe in taking the time to acknowledge the Self you share with others, to pause to rest here without fear. Your guidance can come from the place where you are are resting without fear. Wherever you are resting without fear, here is the true Self of that other. You can rest in peace here.
Ego holds out an empty bag to others and convinces them to fill it through pleasure or pain. Spirit offers only the fullness of itself, recognizing itself everywhere in everything. Nothing Spirit encounters changes Spirit at all. It simply affirms the Self–the stable, the loving, the innocent, and the worthy that are permanent in everyone and everything. The Self always encounters what is the same everywhere, and this is where it finds its happiness. Because this happiness is one happiness, not a temporary happiness belonging to a separate identity, this happiness is real. Willingness to see and rest in a shared identity leads to harmonic functioning and allowing peace.
Whatever you seem to be, no matter how complicated it seems to be, Spirit helps you walk through it. Anything that would disturb is an illusion. The ego will tell you that it knows how to deal with and manage illusions, but you have an option. You don’t have to turn toward this fearful confidence that feels like pressure and power over. Turn toward what is the same and present and stable eternally within everyone and everything. It will speak. It will lead. It will guide. You learn to watch it unfold in peace, playing your part exactly as it is given to you, confident that all have their parts to play. Should you feel disturbed, you are only looking through a distorted lens, and you can come back to peace again.
You don’t have to be pleasant because you are loving. Ego is all about layering an attractive surface over death, leading you toward the experience of its ultimate goal for you–destruction. It also layers suffering over the same goal, leading you in the same way. You need not fear death. Death is only an experience. But the thing you should pay attention to is how it feels when ego leads. It cannot lead without tension and pressure. Ego can grant you pockets of what seems like relaxation and happiness, but they can only be temporary, There is something here to lead all of you with no pressure or tension, and it is you. Simply observe it, acknowledge that it is here at work amongst you, and watch it take charge. It is safe to put what is the same in all of you in charge of all of you.
If you’re judging who is truly helpful and who is not truly helpful, and why, you are closing your eyes to true helpfulness. True helpfulness is always present within everyone and everything. It is not something an ego can judge, because it is not something an ego can see. As you drop down to the level of your true Self, it becomes obvious that this same one thing is present in everyone and everything, and it is all that truly matters.
We are here with you as you learn to be quiet and observe what is real. Now you get to see how the beautiful power of what is real reminds you all of who you are together.
