As you relax into the place of receiving, ego sends thoughts about the place of receiving being the source of danger and horror. Remember that ego is very clever, and to the extent to which you have allowed its thoughts to distract you away from what is real, ego is going to keep sending you those thoughts. Why? Because they work. For now, those thoughts get you looking at the unreal and treating it as real. This is only temporary, however. As you learn to pause with the thoughts ego sends, as you learn to set them down, you see that they never told you anything real. When you believe ego thoughts they can put on a meaningless show, but this is all they can ever do. If you feel disturbed, notice what the ego tried to get you to look at. Notice what the ego tried to get you treat as real.
Notice the ego directing and distracting you away from what would help. Your job is to remember what is always here to help you. Your job is to learn to focus upon what is helpful in all situations. Your job is to learn to sit quietly by while the ego offers one of its thoughts, knowing that what is truly beautiful and helpful can come in to replace any thought the ego would give. Find no value in what ego offers, and suffer nothing the ego predicts.
There is a self-protectiveness in perceived distance from people. Think about what ego would have to see people as the source of. Either they are the source of something you especially want or especially don’t want. It seems to make sense to want to be with certain bodies and away from others. We are not here to take your safety and comfort away from you. We are here to point you in the direction of your actual safety and comfort, and this can be shared with all you call other. Instead of bodies with different qualities, think of the being shining behind the body. See this being as a source of peace that can extend, just as peace can extend from your being. Now allow peace to extend from all beings. When you acknowledge what all of you can truly do instead of focusing on all the significance ego gives various actions in time and space, you will see how easy it is to share happiness.
There is something benign in every situation that makes swift and harmonious use of every element within it. This is the power you all share, and there is no reason to fear it. The kind power shared by all is here to remind you of what you are with all you call other. This is very good news, and there is no need to strain to hold it back.
You are never cut off from this incorruptible power everywhere. Just as you are never cut off from this beneficial power, no one else is because it is shared. Rest here in the recognition of everyone’s access to well-being and assistance. Rest here, looking toward the very loving power that is here to help you all. You have every reason to be at ease, every reason to be confident, every reason to be willing to be led by what is real.
